Astrid Lindgren Memorial Award

Belgian author and illustrator Kitty Crowther is the 2010 recipient of the Literature Prize to the Astrid Lindgren Memorial Award. Crowther has written and illustrated more than 35 children's books and writes mostly in French. Crowther's most well known works are picture books, including L'enfant racine (The Root Child) and La visite de petite mort (The Visit of Little Death).

The Astrid Lindgren Memorial Award (ALMA) is the world's largest children's and youth literature prize. The prize is five million Swedish kroner and is awarded annually to one or more recipients. Authors, illustrators, storytellers and reading promotion work can be rewarded. The purpose of the award is to strengthen and increase interest in children and young people in the world. The prize also strengthens the rights of children worldwide. An expert jury selects the winners nominated by institutions and organizations from around the world. The Astrid Lindgren Memorial Award is administered by the Swedish National Arts Council.
